February Meeting

The February meeting will be held at Ashland Coffee and Tea on Saturday the 11th. We'll be meeting at 10:00 AM; please note that this is a change from our usual time.

Our guest speaker this month is Ashland mayor Faye Prichard; she'll be discussing Ted Kennedy's memoir True Compass, and how it pertains to the politics of obstructionism.

As always, the coffee's on us. Hope to see you there!

New Groups for Women & Young People!

The HDC is launching two new groups over the next few weeks: a local chapter of the Young Democrats, and a recurring coffee social for Democratic women.

The Young Democrats will be open to anyone between the ages of eighteen and thirty-five. E-mail Jaime Kannan ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) for details.

The coffee socials will be informal monthly get-togethers - no dues, agendas, or minutes. The first is slated for February 17th; for further details, click here.

Atlee HS Community Service Fair
On December 14, the HDC attended the Atlee High School Community Service Fair, where students were offered opportunities to sign up for volunteering.

Not only did we sign up nine interested students to volunteer for Democratic candidates, but we also found a sponsor who will start a Democratic Club at Atlee High School. Thanks to Delores Dunn, Bethany Evans, Willie Mills and Gordon Silver for joining me at the HDC table.

Christmas Party
We had a lively Christmas Party on Saturday evening, December 17. It was great to be in a room with 45 happy Democrats. The Democratic air enlivened the holiday cheer.

Thanks to all who brought canned goods for the Central Virginia Food Bank. In all, our donations weighed in at 135 pounds! Democrats are always generous.

Thank you for being extra generous this season.

- Toni Radler, Vice-Chair for Outreach

Off to a Running Start

Our biennial reorgaization got off to a great start on Saturday, December 3, as 30 people participated in the caucus and were voted into membership of the HDC for the 2011-2013 term. What a great start for the next two years! Now we need you to join at the next meeting on Saturday, January 14 at 10 a.m. at Ashland Coffee & Tea.

We closed the 2011 term with 94 members, a healthy treasury and an election effort marked by team work and good organization. We are looking forward to re-electing President Obama, electing Time Kaine to the Senate, electing a Democratic Governor and defeating Eric Cantor. We can only do that with your help.

Please note, we have changed our meeting time to 10 a.m.
