Let's get our strategy on:
Next meeting: Saturday, June 9
The June meeting of the Hanover Democratic Committee will focus on the “suburban strategy” and how to get Democrats elected in suburban areas (including some areas of Hanover!). Don't miss this meeting on Saturday, June 9 at 10 am at Ashland Coffee & Tea.
Our guest will be Chris Bolling, the Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Virginia. Chris, who was unable to make a previous meeting, will be focusing on subdivisions and more populated areas, and how we can Get Out the Vote here in Hanover. We all realize that the only power we have to put the brakes on this Trump nightmare is the power to go to the polls and elect Democrats to Congress. Immediately following the June primary, we will need all the strategic help we can get to get a Democrat elected to Congress from the First Congressional District. Let’s see what the suburban strategy is all about. Please don't miss the June meeting at Ashland Coffee & Tea on Saturday, June 9 at 10 a.m. As always, the coffee is on us.
The Primary is When?
Just days after our meeting on Tuesday, June 12, Virginia Democrats will be going to the polls to pick Democratic candidates to run for Congress. We will be selecting our Democratic Congressional candidate from three good Democratic contenders--John Suddarth, Edwin Santana and Vangie Williams. You've met them and heard them speak...now it's our turn to pick the best candidate to win against ardent Trump supporter Rob Wittman. Please vote on June 12. Tell your friends and family. It's an important primary! The stakes are high! Be part of the decision by casting your vote for your favorite 1st District Democrat on June 12 at your regular voting location. (If you are not going to be in town, voting "absentee in person" is easy, quick and pleasant in the registrar's office at Hanover Courthouse.)
Don't miss Gospel Music Festival II:
The Black Caucus of the Hanover Democratic Committee is presenting some of the best Gospel artists in Virginia at Gospel Music Festival II on Saturday, June 30 at 2 p.m. in Coburn Hall on the campus of Virginia Union University. Tickets are only $10, and you can buy them at the June 9 HDC meeting or buy them on line at hvadems.com/gmf2 or you can send a check to HVADems, P.O. Box 22, Ashland, VA 23005.
"The price of the ticket does not reflect the talent that will be presented at Gospel Music Festival II. We wanted to keep the cost of the tickets down so the Festival will literally be available to everyone. Our goal is to raise awareness about voter registration. We will be registering voters at the event. Voting is a precious right that Americans have died for. All we need to do is register and vote. We hope Gospel Music Festival II will shine the spotlight on voter registration," said Howard, chair of the Black Caucus of the Hanover Democratic Committee.
The incredible line up will feature Cora Harvey Armstrong, renowned songwriter, pianist, and recording artist. Other artists include Caroline County resident Justin Morris, noted for his "Sam Cooke sound alike voice"; Tribute, a Richmond-based gospel group under the direction of Michelle Lightfoot; the 2nd Mt. Zion Celebration Mass Choir with director Kevin Pleasants; the Ella C. Johnson Inspiration Choir from Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Doswell; Stacie Brown who has sung background vocals for Mathew E. White; and sisters Berkley Winston and Addisyn Winston will perform on the piano.

All Democratic Women are Welcome!
Please come to this monthly Coffee on Thursday, July 19, for great fellowship and spirited conversation with like-minded women from all over Hanover.
This July Coffee, an evening get together this time, will be at the home of Betsy Farley. Betsy, who lives in the Hickory Hill Subdivision at 131921 Rooney Lee Drive, 23005, will welcome us at 7 pm.
For those who don't know, we are a growing group of Democratic women of all ages who meet monthly, sometimes in the day and sometimes in the evening, at the homes of volunteer hostesses at different locations around the county. Our goal is to enable as many women as possible to get to know one another so that we can better work together. We have no formal memberships or dues.

Wednesday, June 27 at 7 p.m.
The next monthly gathering of the Hanover Democratic Men's Forum will be held on WEDNESDAY JUNE 27 at 7:00 pm at the home of GORDON SILVER 12281 GODDINS HILL ROAD, ASHLAND. These Democratic Men's Forums provide an opportunity for Hanover Democratic men to meet, socialize, talk politics and hear interesting speakers. The host and Chair of these Democratic Men's Forums, Nelson Vaughan, says hors d'oevres will be served.
Directions to Gordon's home: From the intersection of VA-54 and I-95 at Ashland, drive east on VA-54 for about 3 miles, turn right at the bottom of the hill onto Rt 798 (Goddins Hill Rd), stay on Rt 798 Goddins Hill Rd (not Goddins Rd), following Rt 798 bearing left at the top of the hill, traveling for a total of about 0.6 miles, turn right into Gordon's gravel drive with a black mailbox after several houses on the right (you cannot see Gordon's home at this point because of the trees). His driveway is about 0.1 mile before getting to Mt. Eagle Road on the left.
This month's speaker will be John Suddarth, one of three nominees for Virginia's First Congressional District to oppose Rob Wittman. As everyone knows the Democratic Primary Election will be held on June 12. John will be speaking to us either as the nominee to oppose Wittman or as one of the people who will be pulling together all the Democrats of the Santana, Suddarth and Williams campaigns to defeat Wittman in November. John has served as the Board Chair of Hanover Habitat for Humanity and has been very active in the HDC overseeing the Committee's fundraising efforts.
The purpose of these monthly Men's Forums is to socialize, invigorate, educate and elect Democrats and is a great opportunity to get to know like-minded Democratic men in a way that you just can't in other venues in this predominantly Republican county. The monthly Saturday morning committee meetings are great but you don't have the opportunity to talk and to get to know one another on a more social level. It also gives those who can't attend the Saturday morning meetings a chance to get involved. So please join us on WEDNESDAY JUNE 27 at 7:00 pm. Don't miss this opportunity to socialize and mobilize.
RSVP to Nelson Vaughan at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the cell phone and text messages 201.826.7093; home 804.496.6217.
If you are a woman and receive this, please send to your favorite Democratic male relative, neighbor or friend.
