Wednesday, February 27 at 7 PM
at the home of John Suddarth
10383 Morning Dew Lane, Mechanicsville
The next monthly gathering of the Hanover Democratic Men's Forum will be held on Wednesday, February 27 at 7:00 pm at the home of John Suddarth, 10383 Morning Dew Lane, Mechanicsville. These Democratic Men's Forums provide an opportunity for Hanover Democratic men to meet, socialize, talk politics and hear interesting speakers. Hors de oeuvres will be served.
This month's speaker will be Hope Jackson who is a passionate community activist and founding organizer of the Northern Neck Collective. Her political outlook can be summarized as "Despair is not an Option." But organizing and mobilizing the progressive forces of the community are options and that is exactly what she is doing. The goals of the Northern Neck Collective are to:
1. Create a strong, visible umbrella organization to support progressive groups within the community.
2. Broaden the progressive base by attracting new members, including Millennials.
3. Mainstream or normalize the Democratic presence in the traditionally conservative Northern Neck.
4. Elect more progressive candidates.
All candidates are invited and encouraged to attend.
The purpose of these monthly Men's Forums is to socialize, invigorate, educate and elect Democrats and is a great opportunity to get to know like-minded Democratic men in a way that you just can't in other venues in this predominantly Republican (but slowly turning Democratic) county. The monthly Saturday morning committee meetings are great but you don't have the opportunity to talk and to get to know one another on a more social level. It also gives those who can't attend the Saturday morning meetings a chance to get involved. So please join us on Wednesday, February 27 at 7:00 pm. Don't miss this opportunity to socialize and mobilize.
RSVP to Nelson Vaughan at email@example.com or call the cell phone and text messages 201.826.7093; home 804.496.6217.
If you are a woman and receive this, please attend and/or send to your favorite Democratic male relative, neighbor or friend
Noted Political Columnist & Reporter Our Guest in February
Don’t miss the next meeting of the Hanover Democratic Committee on February 9 at 10 a.m. at Ashland Coffee & Tea when Richmond Times-Dispatch political columnist Jeff Schapiro will be our guest speaker. We are so lucky to get Jeff to speak to the HDC. He is one of our most popular speakers and considered by many to be the best political columnist in Virginia. Come and hear his take on the 2019 Virginia General Assembly, redistricting and the state of the state. You read him in the newspaper, now come and meet him in person. As always the coffee is on us.
In addition to Schapiro, Eileen Davis, one of the leaders of the ERA movement, will give us an update on what’s next for the Equal Rights Amendment. The ERA was killed in committee when Del. Buddy Fowler moved to pass it by indefinitely. Pass it by Fowler did this in spite of the room full of ERA proponents and just as many standing outside the hall in support of just letting the amendment out of committee so it could come to the floor for a vote.
Goodman’s Campaign Kickoff
Morgan Goodman, who is challenging Buddy Fowler for the 55th District House of Delegates seat representing Hanover, Spotsylvania and Caroline, will kick off her campaign on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 6 p.m. at Ashland Coffee & Tea. Please attend. With our grassroots support, Morgan stands a good chance this year!
