Action 3:

Speak up on redistricting:

Both the county and the state will engage in redistricting this year with data from the 2020 census. For Hanover County it means there may be some shifting of precincts and district lines to balance uneven population growth. The initial speculation is that because Chickahominy District has grown the most in population, it will need to shrink in area and Ashland and Cold Harbor will need to add area to make the districts roughly equal in population. The county will hold four public comment sessions to get citizen input on the plans:

Monday, October 25 - 6:00 -7:30 pm - Patrick Henry High School
Tuesday, October 26 - 6:00 - 7:30 pm Atlee High School
Thursday, October 28 - 6:00 - 7:30 pm Hanover High School
Wednesday, November 3 - 6:00 -7:30 pm - Mechanicsville High School

The state is also in the process of drawing redistricting maps for state Senate, House of Delegates, and House of Representative districts. The Redistricting Commission has received maps from a Republican consultant and a Democratic consultant and is inviting public comment.
