Our next meeting of the Hanover Democratic Committee comes as we are getting into full swing for the 2024 campaign. The meeting will be at 4 p.m. on Sept. 8 at Around the Table, 155 Junction Drive, Ashland.
Our featured speaker will be Gloria Witt. She is our party’s nominee in the 5th Congressional District race. The 5th District includes several precincts in Western Hanover and extends down U.S. 29 through Charlottesville, Lynchburg and Danville. It is a big district but that makes the opportunity for Gloria even bigger. She is a strong candidate against John McGuire. She promises to uphold democracy, strengthen families, rethink education, spur smart economic growth and address gun violence. She needs our help to accomplish this important agenda, so please show up on Sept. 8 to support her.
We are also tentatively scheduled to hear from Hanover Registrar Teri Smithson about the nuts and bolts of the election. Jenny Wolfe of the coordinated campaign also will give an update on activities to support our candidates.
