Carolyn Waugaman, a longtime HDC member, lover of all animals, especially dogs, and especially her Corgi, Dash, passed away on June 18. She was a devoted Democrat. And as her friends would testify, she never met a stranger and never ran out of stories to tell. In fact, Carolyn was a writer of short stories and poetry. Carolyn treasured education and would always donate to HDC’s education fund. Among her past professions, she was a Roanoke public-school teacher, worked at the Roanoke Animal Hospital for several years, and retired from the Virginia Department of Agriculture in 1991.
She will be greatly missed by her longtime friends and neighbors on Cady’s Mill Road as well as her friends at the Hanover Democratic Committee. A funeral service will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Ashland at 1 p.m. on August 27.
Thanks to the generosity of longtime HDC member Carrie Galeski, the HDC will be creating an additional scholarship for our program in Carolyn Waugaman’s honor. If you would like to contribute to the Waugaman Scholarship Fund, please send your contribution to P.O. Box 22, Ashland, VA 23005. Please make the check payable to Hanover Democratic Committee, with a notation “Carolyn Waugaman Scholarship Fund.”
