Hello, I am Sandra Howard and I am chair of the Hanover County Democratic Committee Black Caucus.
When the pandemic hit, we seemed to have fallen off course, as many organizations and people did.
With the 2024 election coming up and with all of the misinformation being spread, we realized we need to revamp and become the voice of truth and reasoning for our people, our county, our party and for America.
The goal of the Hanover Democratic Committee Black Caucus is to organize the Hanover Democratic Committee as an open, inclusive accessible committee. Please come and be a part of us; we have truly mentally grown and we could use your ideas.
I am confident most people are aware that we are in trying times and this 2024 Election is “CRITICAL.” Every American is standing on tip-toes, no matter what your view.
First, let us remember America was built on diversification, supposedly different people, different ideas coming together for one common goal: the betterment of all involved.
Black people, people of Color, or African American. All God’s People as well as White People or European People. All God’s People. This should be a wonderful mix with these wonderful minds and makes for a wonderful country to live in. Oh, here comes the word, “Racism.” Tearing out the hearts of all people. How do you hate someone you don’t even know? This ugly word has been hanging around for so long being passed on as though it is something to be proud of; meaning, you are better than someone because of their color. It has festered so until it has and is destroying our country.
What I want to happen. I want my husband, my child, my grandchildren, my family, and I to walk down the street and feel safe or to vote without looking over my shoulder and every American should want that, but above all, every American is entitled to that. We look to the Government to fix this. Well, we need to fix it ourselves. Vote. Teach your children to vote. Become a part of a group that knows what is right for our country. Leave your children a legacy of freedom and pride to be free and express their ideas without fear.
Walk with me on this paper. It has been written that race is a central theme in how African Americans relate to the world. We, as a people, need to fix this. This is nothing new, read the Fifteenth Amendment of 1870.
Look at other countries; they are watching us. We have always carried the banner; now, they are wondering.
Let us see where we stand this early 2024. We have a leader — President Joe Biden who:
1. Expunged all simple marijuana criminal records.
2. Lowered insulin Part D on Medicare to $35 per month.
3. Made available billions of dollars for Black small businesses.
4. Signed the CHIPS and Science Act.
5. Signed the Postal Service Reform Act.
6. The Hate Crime Act.
7. After his second year in office, after the Republican Senate blocked the George Floyd Justice Act, signed a historic executive order to advance effective accountable police policies and strengthen public safety.
8. Signed the Emmett Till Anti-lynching Act, proposed by Bobby Rush (D-Ill.).
Do your research. Don’t sleep on our leader with this age myth; he is sharp. Let’s not forget, he has a younger Vice President, Kamala Harris, who is brilliant and she has his back, and as a team, they have the backs of the American people. I think we will be fine. We have been so far.
Search your heart and do what is right for you; I have made my decision.
