Take Action Now is a call from the Hanover Democratic Committee to preserve our democracy in these challenging times. Join us in taking these simple actions on the local, state and national levels.
It has been a terrible week for voting rights, especially here in Virginia. The U.S. Supreme Court gutted much of the Voting Rights Act, and now southern states are rushing to racially gerrymander in order to gain more seats in the House of Representatives in the fall. Also, the Virginia Supreme Court, in a 4-3 split decision, overturned the the redistricting referendum that was passed by Virginia voters in April, so, barring a miracle decision from the U.S. Supreme Court, Virginians will be voting in the old House districts in November.
Even without redistricting Rob Wittman (202-225-4261 or 804-730-6595) and John McGuire’s (202-225-4711 or 434-791-2596) House seats are vulnerable in the upcoming midterms. Let’s put pressure on them to take actions for the common good while they can by enumerating our major complaints:
